He is best known for his allegorical poem on urban suffering and despair 'The City of Dreadful Night&apos.Illustrated with a frontispiece to the white cloth issue.Written by Bertram Dobell, a bookseller and scholar who was close friends with Thomson. Bookplate of Scofield Thayer to the front paste down of the blue cloth issue. Thayer was a wealthy American poet and publisher.Four pages of adverts to the rear of each volume. Two volumes in the original publisher's cloth, one volume in the original paper wraps. Externally, smart. Wraps are a little age-toned. A few light marks to the white cloth. Bookplate to the front paste down of the blue cloth copy. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
