First edition. In the original cloth binding. George Mifflin Dallas served as mayor of Philadelphia (1828-1829), the 11th Vice President of the United States (1845-1849) and U.S. Minister to the United Kingdom (1856-1861). This book, containing his diary entries from 1837-1861, documents his time time as a U.S. minister to Russia and to England. Edited by his daughter, Susan Dallas. With a monochrome portrait frontispiece.  In the original cloth binding. Externally, hinges are at risk of detaching with further handling. With loss of cloth to the spine head and tail. Marks to the boards and rubbing to the extremities.
