The second edition of volume two of a two-volume work. Bound in the original quarter roan and decorative cloth binding with arabesque gilt detailing to the spine and front board, onlaid with turquoise cabochons, with the rare original dust wrapper. Silk moire end papers. All edges gilt. Lavishly illustrated with forty-five monochrome plates, a colour map, and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. The second volume of Georg Ebers' exploration of Egypt, with illustrations by a variety of artists such as Gustav Kuhn, Leopold Carl Muller, Wilhelm Gentz, Adolf Gnauth and many more. Written in the original German by Georg Ebers (1837-1898), an authority of Egyptology. He was best known for his purchase of the Ebers Papyrus, one of the oldest Egyptian medical documents in the world. Undated, dated through copies held at the British Library. In the original quarter roan and decorative cloth binding, with the original dust wrapper. Externally, lovely, with light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. Gilt remains bright. All cabochons intact. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the occasional spot and handling mark, more so to the first and last couple of pages. Dust wrapper is generally smart with small marks. Sunned, more so to the spine of the wrap, with small holes to the spine and front of the wrap, caused by the cabochons.
