 1569642440,
New York, Random House, 1947. First edition. Cloth. A smart first US edition of this introspective novel from Pierre Andrezel, the pen name of Karen Christenze von Blixen-Finecke. First US edition. The author's only full-length novel. Written during the Second World War, when Denmark was occupied by the Germans, the horrors experienced by the young heroines have been interpreted as an allegory of Nazism. Blixen denied that interpretation, claiming instead that the novel was a distraction that had helped her to escape the feeling of being imprisoned by the war. Written by Baroness Karen Christenze von Blixen-Finecke, a Danish author who wrote in Danish and English under various pen names, including Pierre Andrezel. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor bumping to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is smart with light wear and the odd small closed tear to the extremities. A 1" closed tear to the rear panel. Light sunning to the spine with the odd small mark to the panels. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Near Fine . Ill.: None.
