First edition. A scarce holiday annual from German publisher, Ernest Nister, who also printed movable books for children and was the first to invent automatic pop-up books (pop-ups had to be manually maneuvered into an upright position prior). In the publisher's original quarter cloth with pictorial boards.Comprising short stories and rhymes, with contributions from L. Molesworth, Helen J. Wood and others. Edited by C. J. L'Estrange, a British writer of mainly children's adventure fiction, who regularly published under the pseudonym of Herbert Strange or Mrs Herbert Strang. Wonderfully illustrated throughout with vignettes and plates in colour and monochrome.  In the original quarter cloth with pictorial boards. Externally, smart, with rubbing to the extremities and marks to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound, with three pages detached but present to the work. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the endpapers and occasional spots. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
