The first edition, first impression of each of these volumes.These volumes were edited by Leonard Russell, an English journalist known for authoring satirical articles. An annual miscellany, The Saturday Book was published from 1941-1975. It provided literary and artistic commentary about various arts subjects, including paintings, ballet, music and design.Articles and literary pieces in these volumes include: 'Lead Belly' by Iain Lang, 'Fair and Frail', by Edwin Smith, 'Unforgettable Days' by Bernard Darwin, and 'Second Sight' by Elizabeth Nicholas.Illustrated throughout with monochrome photographs, illustrations and plates. The illustrations were chosen and arranged by Laurence Scarfe.With the bookplate of Henry T. Mather to the front pastedown of the fifth year. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Fading to back strips. Small ink marks to front board of year five and six. A touch of fading to board heads of year seven. Bookplate to year five front pastedown. Light spotting to text block fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with instances of light spotting to first and last few leaves of each volume. Very Good Indeed .
