The first edition of this very scarce work. Volume II of 'Reports of the Assistant Commissioners', being the seventh volume (part II) of the 'Reports from Commissioners&apos. Work has been rebound in half calf boards, around 2" larger in width to the work itself. This volume contains a series of reports, carried out to inquire into the state of popular education in England. With findings and observations made by assistant commissioners such as Rev. James Fraser, A. F. Foster and John Jenkins. An array of areas across England are explored, such as agricultural districts of Lincoln, manufacturing districts of Rochdale and Bradford, and mining districts of Dudley and Stoke-upon-Trent. With annotations to the margins that point to key findings and conclusions throughout the reports.  Work has been rebound in half calf boards, around 2" larger than the work itself. Externally, smart, with rubbing and slight bumping to the extremities. Leather has been particularly rubbed to the spine head and tail. With marks to the boards. Bookplate of Vermont State Library to the front pastedown.
