The first edition of this work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding, uncommon to see with the original unclipped dust wrapper. The life and career of James Joseph Tunney, an American professional boxer who competed from 1915 to 1928. He held the World Heavyweight title from 1926 to 1928, and the American Light Heavyweight title twice between 1922 and 1923. Remembered for knocking out Georges Carpentier and defeating Jack Dempsey twice; his successful title defense against Dempsey remains one of the most famous bouts in boxing history, known as The Long Count Fight. Illustrated with a frontispiece and many black-and-white photographs. Written by Nathaniel Stanley Fleischer, a noted American boxing writer and collector. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is generally bright and smart, with shelf wear to the head and tail of the spine and a little discoloration to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for occasional offsetting to the text and spotting to the paste downs. Dust wrapper is sound, though sunned - particularly to the spine - and chipped to the folds and to the head and tail of the spine. Several amateur tape repairs to the reverse of the dust wrapper.
