Day was an important figure in the Arts and Crafts movement as a British decorative artist and industrial designed.This work presents the history of the adaptability of plant form to the purpose of ornament, demonstrating the natural development of ornament from nature, and ornamental designs relationship to natural form.Illustrated with one-hundred and twenty-three monochrome plates, with further vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.With a former owner's inscription, dated 1899, to the title page head.With the bookplate of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front pastedown. William Foyle founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 alongside his brother. He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England. In a full morocco binding. Externally, excellent, with a touch of rubbing to raised bands.
