The very scarce first edition, first printing of this work, with the misprint '2885' for '1885' on page. 89.Considered to be the first book written by an American about lawn tennis - excepting rule books -  Dwight introduced the sport in America after an 1874 trip to Europe. Often termed the "Founding Father of American Tennis", Dwight won the first recorded tournament in the U.S. in August 1876 in Nahant, Massachusetts. Dwight was later among the founders of the U.S. National Lawn Tennis Association and served as its president for two decades. With twelve pages of advertisements to the rear, largely for tennis equipment.Divided into two parts and seventeen chapters, this work covers topics including cases and decisions, ladies and gentlemen's doubles, the service, and other techniques, alongside a list of winners.
