Emaki Handscroll with 34 Flower Arrangements. 27.0 cm high scroll, in a brocade cover with bone jiku scroll handles. The flower arrangement examples depicted date back to masters of the late 17th and early 18th century and this rendition seems consistent with a mid to late 18th century production date, though it is undated. RokkakudÅ� Ikenobo å-­è§’å ‚æ± å�Š was the title of a Buddhist priest connected with the RokkakudÅ� å-­è§’å ‚ (ChÅ�hÅ�ji 頂法寺) Temple in Kyoto, known as the birthplace of Ikebana. Ikenobu æ± å�Š refers to the pond (ike, æ± ) and small hut (bo, å�Š) where the priests live. There is a hexagonal stone in the temple grounds (rokkaku å-­è§’, six sided) that is said to be the center of Kyoto. In lovely condition overall, an excellent example of the genre.
