Title continued: "Illustrated and Explained, according to the Principles of Modern Chemistry: comprehending the Improvements in Dr. Duncan's Second Edition of the Edinburgh New Dispensatory. The arrangement simplified, and the whole adapted to the Practice of Medicine and Pharmacy in the United States." Coxe was chair of materia medica and pharmacy at the University of Pennsylvania in 1818; he was "Active in the field even before joining the University, he is regarded by many as the father of pharmacy in Philadelphia .. The present work is one of the earliest American drug compendia" (Heirs of Hippocrates). Calf. Boards, ffep & rfep detached, spine chipped and cracked. Gilt morocco spine labels worn. Ex-library with usual markings, bookplates of Boston pharmacist Samuel A. D. Sheppard and Samuel Robinson. Text block has moderate foxing and staining, some pages slightly chipped at bottom with no loss of text. As is. Heirs, 1289; Wellcome II, p. 402 (1818 ed.). .
