A very scarce and unique book on the Ugly Face Club in Liverpool, describing the members and their appearances, written and published by Edward Howell. The first edition. Very scarce. Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece depicting the original Ugly Face Club newspaper advertisement. This work was published and edited by Edward Howell and compiled from original sources such as an article, extracts from 'The Secret History of Clubs' and information on American ugly face clubs from the Eighteenth century. The work provides an account of the club including the rules and descriptions of the members and their physical appearances, indicating what features helped to qualify them for this unusual club membership. Institutional bookplate from 'The City of Cardiff Public Library&apos. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with fading to the spine, slight marks to the boards and bumping to the extremities. Institutional library bookplate from the 'City of Cardiff Public Library' to the front pastedown with offsetting and scattered spotting to the endpapers.
