James Anderson. The scarce first edition. In the publisher's original blind stamped and gilt cloth. Illustrated by J. Godwin and J. W. Archer with an engraved frontispiece, title page, vignettes, headpieces, decorative borders and twelve monochrome plates. Collated complete. This work was written by Rev. James Anderson and provides an account of the women who participated in the European reformation. The reformation took place in the sixteenth century and was started by King Henry VIII to separate the Church of England from the authority of the Pope and the Catholic Church. Anderson wrote this biographical work on the women who supported, died or performed heroic deeds in the name of the reformation, as a remembrance of their actions and help towards the Church of England. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally excellent with only slight bumping to the extremities, slight marks to the boards and very minimal loss to the cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Internally firmly bound with generally bright pages and an ink inscription and a small tidemark to the half title and occasional spotting, heaviest to the front and rear. Very Good . Ill.: J.
