Originally published in the Spectator, a magazine started by Richard Steele and Joseph Addison. Illustrated by Hugh Thompson with a frontispiece, illustrated title pages and vignettes throughout. In the publisher's original blue cloth with a gilt illustration to the front. This work, while not stated, was written by Richard Steele and Joseph Addison. The works provides a fictional account of visiting an English gentlemen named Sir Roger Coverley. The work has been beautifully illustrated by the noted Hugh Thompson who is best known for his illustrations of works by authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and J. M. Barrie. Externally very smart with the odd minor mark to the boards, fading to the spine, bumping and light rubbing to the extremities and small minor closed tears to the head and tail of the spine.
