The first edition, first issue of this work, being bound from the parts, with puncture marks present to the gutter. With the first issue points 'William' for 'Frederick on page 317 line 27, B2 instead of BB2 on page 371, and 'Rigaud' for 'Blandois' on pages 469-73. Issue points as stated by John C. Eckel in his 1913 publication 'The First Editions of the Writings of Charles Dickens&apos.Illustrated with a frontispiece, engraved title page, and thirty-eight plates. Collated, complete, with all plates are present, including the dark plates.Illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne, most often known by his penname 'Phiz&apos. As Phiz, he illustrated many of Dickens' novels, including 'David Copperfield', 'Dombey and Son', and 'Bleak House', as well as illustrating for 'Punch' throughout his life.Bound without half-title.'Little Dorrit' follows Amy Dorrit, who was born and raised in the Marshalsea debtors prison. It was originally published in monthly instalments over nineteen months, and this is the first edition published in book form.In a signed half calf binding by Webb & Hunt of Liverpool.With the armorial bookplate of J.F. Schenck to the front pastedown, and a presentation inscription, dated 1896, to the front free endpaper, alongside a number of newspaper clippings. In a signed half calf binding, with gilt detailing to back strip, and marbled paper covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Small loss of leather to back strip head, with loss of paper at fore edge of rear board. Hinges strained, and a touch tender. Bookplate to front pastedown, an inscription and newspaper clippings to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
