First edition copies of these two works in the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original dust wrappers. Sir William Golding (1911-1993) was a British novelist, playwright, and poet, best known for his debut novel Lord of the Flies (1954). He was awarded the 1983 Nobel Prize in Literature. The Scorpion God (1971) is a collection of three novellas: The Scorpion God, set in ancient Egypt; Clonk Clonk, set in pre-historic Africa; and Envoy Extraordinary, set in ancient Rome. The novel Darkness Visible (1979) won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and tells a story of a struggle between good and evil. This work was his first publication since the collection The Scorpion God. In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with the original dust wrappers. Unclipped dust wrapper to Scorpion God.
