Born in Normandy in 1735, Hector St. John de Crèvecoeur emigrated to the New World, traveled widely in Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts, and wrote about what he saw. His letters provide a glimpse of life in British colonies in the 18th century. They are presented in a deluxe Franklin Library edition with various period illustrations in black & white. An entry in the publisher's 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature series, issued in conjunction with the Bicentennial of the American Revolution.
