A four volume set of 13th to 15th century court rolls, and plea and memoranda rolls, from the library of urban historian, Derek Keene. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth bindings. Ink inscription to the title page and to page 24 of the first volume. Library bookplate of Poplar Libraries to the front paste down, and library stamp to page lxiv, page 359, and to the verso of the half title page, of the third volume. Loosely inserted to the third volume is a typewritten leaf concerning the Plea and Memoranda Roll A22A. Stamp stating "Ex Libris Derek Keene" to the front free end papers of all volumes except the second volume. Ink inscription "D. J. Keene" to the front paste down of the first and last volume, and to the front free end paper of the second volume. Derek John Keene (1942-2021) was an English urban historian, who was also the founding director of the Centre for Metropolitan History at the Institute of Historical Research (IHR). A four-volume set of court rolls, and plea and memoranda rolls, pertaining to the city of London, between 1298 and 1412. This set was printed by order of the Corporation under the direction of the Library Committee, and was edited by A. H. Thomas.   This set includes: Calendar of Early Mayor's Court Rolls, Preserved among the Archives of the Corporation of the City of London at the Guildhall: A.D. 1298-1307 (1924) Calendar of Plea and Memoranda Rolls, Preserved among the Archives of the Corporation of the City of London at the Guildhall: A.D.1323-1364 (1926) Calendar of Plea and Memoranda Rolls, Preserved among the Archives of the Corporation of the City of London at the Guildhall: A.D.1364-1381 (1929) Calendar of Select Pleas and Memoranda of the City of London, Preserved among the Archives of the Corporation of the City of London at the Guildhall: A.D.1381-1412 (1932) In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally, fairly smart, with light shelf wear to the extremities and joints. Small library inscription to the third volume. Small split to the cloth of the rear joint of the first volume. Bigger split to cloth of the front joint of the fourth volume, with a loss of cloth to the joint, and a small tear to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for some offsetting and the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
