A presentation copy of this account of the letters of the Mayor and city of London between 1350 and 1370, with a signed letter from archivist Sir William Hardy. A presentation copy of this first edition, with a bookplate reading 'Presentation Copy' to the front pastedown, and with a letter signed by archivist Sir William Hardy tipped in to the front free endpaper. Hardy held the post of deputy record-keeper at the Public Record Office for eight years, and was placed on the Historical Manuscripts Commission on 12 July 1878. The letter, on the stationary of Guildhall Library, is dated July 1885, and addressed 'Dear Sir&apos. It reads 'in the name of the Library Committee of the Corporation of the City of London, I have much pleasure in asking your acceptance of the enclosed volume&apos. The letter is signed by a further individual, George Shaw.A fascinating account of the letters of the Mayor and city of London between 1350 and 1370.With the stamp and inscription of Derek Keene to the front free endpaper. Keene was a prominent English urban historian, who brought together history, archaeology and geography to investigate how people in the past experienced life in cities such as London. The project that generated most excitement was his work in the 1980s and 90s on the townscape and society of medieval London. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt detailing. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with small loss of cloth at back strip head. Paper residue to tail of back strip. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Presentation label to front pastedown, with letter tipped in to front free endpaper. Inscription and stamp to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
