The first edition of this tragedy, which was first performed at the Theatre-Royal, Drury Lane, in 1773.ESTC reference T32933. With the final epilogue leaf, as called for.After graduation from the University of Edinburgh in 1742, Home's ecclesiastical career was interrupted by his martial enthusiasm, which led him to volunteer to fight against the Jacobite rebellion of Bonnie Prince Charlie. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Falkirk, but escaped from captivity at Doone Castle. He later became private secretary to Lord Bute, tutor to the Prince of Wales, and once again became a soldier in 1778, having given up writing. Disbound, as issued. Retaining calf back strip.
