A new edition, complete in two volumes. First part of French noelist and journalist Jean-Baptiste Louvet de Couvray's first successful work, first published in 1787 and followed by 1788 'Six semaines de la vie du chevalier de Faublas' and by 'La Fin des amours du chevalier de Faublas' in 1790.Featuring the character of Lodoiska, based on the wife of a jeweller in the Palais Royal, with whom Louvet had an affair. Rebound in uniform Mudie signed half calf bindings over marbled boards, with titles in gilt to morocco spine labels, gilt tooling to spine, marbled edges and endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Odd light minor spotting to odd leaf, particularly first and last few; pages otherwise generally clean throughout.
