An early and ground-breaking work on agricultural plant science, in a half calf binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe.The author, the first Professor of Materia Medica at the University of Edinburgh, was known to make the first attempt to vaccinate against measles, and conducted experiments relating to chemistry and fertilizers, examining various types of soils and plants.Including discussion of black, clay, sandy and chalky soil, quick-lime, dunghills, types of animal manure, ploughing and plant diseases.ESTC Citation No. T55411. Page 134 miss-numbered 314, as called for. A reissue of the sheets of the 1756 edition, with a new title page.This work received a gold medal from the Edinburgh Society. Rebound in a half calf signed binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, with marbled paper covered boards, and endpapers renewed. Externally, excellent, with some fading and rubbing to the centre of boards. Binder's stamp to verso of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound.
