A scarce work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Ink inscription to the half title page, dated 1901. Clara Lucas Balfour (1808-1878) was a well-known English temperance campaigner, lecturer and author. In this work, she promotes temperance with variety of arguments in its favour, and presents a history of the temperance movement. Illustrated throughout. 18 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally bright and smart, with just a touch of fading to the spine.
