Volumes 1 and 2 have marbled paper covered boards, volume 3 has dark grey cloth covered boards. Needs rebacking; volumes 1 and 2, spines partially detached; volume 3, front board detached, spine partially detached. Boards show moderate shelfwear, light staining to cloth on volume 3. This edition has been improved with corrections and illustrations. Virchow's criticism of the first edition impelled him to completely rewrite it; Garrison Morton notes "Rokitansky ranks with Morgagni as among the greatest of all writers on gross pathology" (see 2293).
