"Martin Chuzzlewit" did not achieve the high level of popularity of some of Mr. Dickens's other works, but it was considered by him to be his best work. With 24 striking color illustrations by Wray Manning, and with an introduction by John T. Winterich. Sandglass leaflet not present. --- In full greenish-grey variant cloth-covered boards w/maroon decorations on covers & spine, gilt title oval on spine and maroon topstain. An undated copy, possibly published c.1940s-1950s. In maroon paper-covered slipcase. --- An excellent copy: clean, tightly-bound and bright but with prior owner's signature to front free endpaper and a couple of leaves near the front of the book with tears. Slipcase has minor sunning & rubbing and with a penciling, otherwise structurally sound.; Tall Octavo (9 to 10 in. ; xxiii, 772 pages. Very Good+ .
