Richard Aldington (1892-1962), born Edward Godfree Aldington, was an English writer and poet, and an early associate of the Imagist movement. Disillusionment was a common theme of his work, which many critics believe was due to his experiences during the First World War. In The Colonel"s Daughter (1931) he satirizes feigned gentility and literary pretentiousness. Two lending libraries refused to handle the novel, considering it too outspoken. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition with just a little fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, except for a scattering of spots to the end papers. Near Fine . Ill.: None. Near Fine .
