During his career, he was best known for work in Punch magazine and Illustrated London News. He also illustrated Longfellow's Evangeline and other books of poetry. An uncommon work.With thirty five beautiful sketches on monochrome plates. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, sound. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is some wear to the cloth in these areas. There is some spotting to the cloth particularly to the spine. The hinges are starting but firm. Internally, loosely firmly bound. Many of the pages are detached or working loose.
