The third edition of this work in French, in a full calf binding. William Cobbett (1763-1835) was a journalist and politician. He wrote The Soldier's Friend in 1792, in protest against the low pay and harsh treatment of enlisted men in the British army. After fleeing to avoid imprisonment, first to France and then to America, Cobbett prospered by teaching English to Frenchmen and translating texts from French to English. He later published this work on English grammar to aid French people in speaking English. In a full calf prize binding. Externally smart, with some rubbing, mainly to the spine where there are losses to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot, and some age toning to the first and last few pages. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
