The first edition of this work, 'One Hundred Years Ago', following the 1854 publication of  'Sixty Years Since.' Containing a series of thirty engravings from the picturesque sceneries of England, Scotland, and Wales as painted by either J. M. W. Turner or Thomas Girtin. Collated, complete. With a memoir of both Turner and Girtin, rivals and friends in the eighteenth century, both influential watercolourists and etchers who established watercolouring as a reputable art form.  In the original publisher's orange variant decorative cloth binding. Externally with shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine, cracked to head of front joint, boards holding firm, back strip faded. Frontispiece weakly attached. Internally, firmly bound.
