 1567876924,
London, George Routledge and Sons, 1874. Cloth. A delightful work of fiction by sports writer Charles James Apperley, with thirty eight coloured plates A delightful work of fiction by sportsman and sports writer Charles James Apperley. Publishing under the pseudonym Nimrod, Apperley often covered horse races, hunt meets, and other sporting events for the Sporting Magazine. This is one of his best-known works, brought to life by Henry Alken's colour illustrations, with thirty eight plates, collated and complete. In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Externally, generally sound. A little rubbed to the boards and spine. Bumped to the head of the spine with three closed tears and a little loss of cloth. A small strip of cloth has also been lost from the tail of the spine. With tears in the cloth at both the front and rear joints, the joints are a little tender but still reasonably firm. Both front and rear hinges are starting but firm. Internally, the binding is rather tender and the text block is held together by cords towards the front. The pages between page 48 and 64 are especially loose, as are pages 113 to 128, pages 54 to 58, and pages 151 to 154 are disbound but present. Pages are a little age-toned towards the fore edge and are lightly foxed throughout. Good Only . Ill.: Henry Alken. Good Only .
