The first edition, first impression, with no subsequent impressions listed.In the original publisher's unclipped dust wrapper.A collection of several hundred philosophical aphorisms by John Fowles, with a total of 1,405 short insightful pieces. Fowles describes 'The Aristos' as a self-portrait of himself through his ideas, a literary statement of his reaction to the situation he existed in.In form this work is modelled on the 'Pensees' of Pascal, with some concepts of Heraclitus, and the spirit of Montaigne. This was the second published work by Fowles, following from his hugely successful novel 'The Collector&apos. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Very minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light edge wear to the dust wrapper, mostly to the head. Backstrip is discoloured with a few minor marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Fine . Ill.: None.
