A very scarce early twentieth century pharmacopoeia produced by Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred teaching hospital. With the inscription of Dr. Ralph Hyde, dated 1914, to the front free endpaper. Hyde's handwritten notes are featured throughout the work, to pastedowns, endpapers, blank leaves and page perimeters. Hyde's notes include a list of local anaesthetics - including cocaine and carbolic acids - lists of treatments for whooping cough, haemorrhoids, hookworm and epileptic fits, and recipes for psoriasis and acne creams, mouth washes and hair tonics.Four handwritten prescription notes written by Dr. Hyde are also included. Two notes bear the letterhead of Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, with one dated 1944 and including a recipe for a scalp lotion, and another suggestion of topical treatments. A further note discusses a scabies treatment, and a 1925 note instructs the recipient to apply lanolin and glycerine to the skin.This pharmacopoeia - a publication containing a list of drugs with their effects and directions of use - is alphabetically arranged, and scarce. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to spine head and tail and board perimeters. Significant rubbing and fraying to board perimeters, back strip and joints. Front joint starting, with board holding firm. Mark to head of front board. Internally, binding lightly strained throughout.
