A first edition of this translation, with signed bindings on three volumes. Roscoe introduces each piece with biographical and critical notes, before providing translations of well known novels such as Reynard the Fox and Doctor Faustus. The collection also holds writings by other popular German authors such as the Grimm brothers, Friedrich Schiller, and Georg Engel. Binder's sticker to the front pastedown of volume I, II and III. Bound by Galway & Co. Eustace Street, Dublin. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedown. 'Oliver Brett&apos. In half calf binding over green marbled boards. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, with a little scuffing of the leather at the spine. A little bumped to the head of each volume causing some light wear to the leather. Front hinge of volume I starting. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright with the odd spot throughout, except for volume IV, which is a little more foxed than the others. Very Good . Ill.: Not stated. Very Good .
