Busk was married to an M.P. prone to gambling, and ultimately supported her family on the income she earned writing for Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine, the Foreign Quarterly Review and the Athenaeum.Published under the superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, a group founded in 1926 with the aim of providing information to those unable to afford formal education, this is a wonderfully detailed history of the two countries from B. C. 1000 to A. D. 1814. In a full calf binding, with gilt detailing to spine. Rubbing to back strip and board perimeters. Hinges strained but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound.
