Three Volume Set 1865 Published By Groombridge And Sons London.This is a Very Good Set in original green gilt embossed cloth with lavish gilt decorations to spine and upper cover with birds nests in gilt to each of the upper covers.Blind stamped design also present to the outer boards.The Green cloth boards are in really nice condition with NO tears to the head or tail of spines.Light rubbing to corners.There is one neat inscription to the front endpaper of each volume dated 1865.The set is complete with 232 wonderful hand coloured plates and laid in are a further 4 additional specimen plates plus one remnant dust-wrapper of spine from volume one.Each plate portrays the egg or nest and egg of a bird native to the British Isles.This work gives the fullest information respecting the localities and construction of their nests, the number and peculiarities of their eggs, and all the instruction requisite for determining to what species they belong. Each egg is figured and minutely described.The works have been collated and all plates are present.There is some intermittent foxing throughout the volumes,and an odd gathering in places is showing some tenderness.Volume One had a couple of loose plates that have re-tipped back in.This is a bright and attractive set for the collector,8vo Volume One 156pp Volume Two (iv) 148pp Volume Three 140pp Heavy Set with additional postage required above the default setting [1865].
