[8] + 188 pp. + 2 pp. publisher's advertisements. 16mo. modern signed (Zaehnsdorf) burgundy leather binding, triple gilt rules, raised bands, gilt spine, dentelles and top edge, marbled endpapers. Near fine, a touch of wear to bottom of front and rear joints. Personal bookplate with Hebrew motto on first blank recto, ink ownership to blank verso facing title page (these appear to be newly added preliminaries). Author's name in pencil on title page; title page repaired and tipped in at gutter. Occasional light foxing in the text. D'Urfey (1653-1723) was known for his well-loved comedies and songs, many of which were set by Purcell, Blow, and Farmer. Inspired by Samuel Butler's Hudibras (1663-1678), a polemic satirizing the Puritans. .
