In this work, Gardner explores English Medieval sculpture from pre-Conquest times to the Late Gothic period. Arthur Gardner (1878-1972) was an art historian and photographer with a focus on medieval sculpture and architecture. Gardner was well-regarded for his ability to effectively combine the existing material of other academics, to make medieval art more accessible to the wider public. Many of the illustrations in his works became standardised in academic textbooks. In publisher's original cloth binding, with original clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Dust wrapper has some slight wear to the extremities, a few small closed tears to the front of the wrap, and some minor marks to the front and rear of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound.
