'A Short History of the English People' was the first work by the nineteenth century historian, John Richard Green, assuring him a place in the rank of influential historical writers. This book was praised for beginning a new epoch in the writing of history, one which focuses primarily on the progress of its people. Green later went on to expand this novel into a multiple volume set. In full calf prize binding. Externally, excellent with some light shelf wear to the extremities and spine. Prize bookplate to the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean with some light age-toning to the edges. The odd spot throughout.
