HIRANO, Chie - Kiyonaga![]() 1939. HIRANO Chie. KIYONAGA. A study of his life and works. With a portfolio of plates in color and collotype. Boston: Museum of Fine Arts, 1939. 4to. grey cloth; viii + 545pp. Slight soiling, else near fine. This copy has the portfolio of plates printed in Japan in 1945. It has all the collotype plates of the American edition and 6 (compared to 8 in the original editon) color woodcut facsimiles, printed by Watanabe, are called for and included in this edition. With a xerox of the English language table of contents from the original edition. There are a few pages of preliminary descriptive captions in Japanese - captions which did not appear in the American edition. All the numbering (translated into Arabic numbers in pencil) of the reference plates match the numbering of the text volume, hence this copy is as fully useful as reference as the original edition. A remarkable work, the only catalogue raisonne of a Japanese artist done in English, and still the best work done on Kiyonaga in any language. The text volume is near fine and the portfolio of plates is good with splitting to the hinges. Very useful!. USD 1750.00 [Appr.: EURO 1547 | £UK 1314.5 | JP¥ 254057] Book number 82961is offered by:
