A facsimile edition of the Domesday Book, or The Great Survey of England, conducted by William the Conqueror in 1086. This important manuscript was compiled in order to provide the annual value of every piece of landed property to its lord, as well as the total resources in land, labour, and livestock. This copy contains the portion of the survey relating to Staffordshire, a county in the West Midlands of England. This facsimile copy has been photo-zincographed by Her Majesty's Command by the Ordinance Survey Office Southampton under the supervision of Colonel Sir H. James, Director. Containing in-text illustrations and an introduction by Colonel Sir Henry James. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally sound, with some light shelf wear to the boards and splitting to the cloth on the joints and spine. Internally, hinges are strained.
