A first edition.Two volumes in one, including 'London and its Environs in the Nineteenth Century&apos. Illustrated with two engraved title page, and ninety-six plates.An interesting study into London and its many improvements during the Industrial Revolution, a beautiful illustrated work on the early days of booming industry changes in the first decades of the nineteenth century.The work looks into the rapid development of nineteenth century London, and the new buildings of George IV's London.Written by James Elmes, a noted architect and civil engineer. Illustrated by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd.Bookplate of Starling Benson to the front paste down.Bound without the list of engravings, the second work ends at page 36. In a full cloth binding. Externally, boards and spine are a little marked with some rubbing, including a tide mark to the front board. Crack to the spine and rear joint. A little loss to the head and tail of the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spine is a little faded. Hinges are a little strained. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound.
