Known for her vivid accounts of Scottish life and views on women's education, this novel was described as mixing morals with views on reasons for happy or unhappy unions. In three volumes. In uniform half calf bindings with gilt tooling detail to spine over marbled boards. Externally sound with minor shelf wear, rubbed to spine, boards and extremities. Tape mark from the removal of library shelf number to spine. Library bookplates to front pastedowns or free endpapers, discreet stamp to pastedown vol.
