A very scarce historical work First English Edition, very scarce.In a modern cloth binding, with a leather label on spine displaying the title in gilt. This is a historical work which gives the readers 'facts and illustrations' that were relative to the military preparations carried on in France between the conclusion of the Treaty of Amiens and the commencement of the Napoleonic Wars. This pamphlet was originally published under the title of 'Immenses Preparatifs&apos.Translated from the French of Sir Francis d'Ivernois (1757-1842), a political exile and politician in Geneva. d'Ivernois was a writer and diplomatic agent for the British cause against revolutionary France and was knighted by George III in 1796. He was also one of the two Genevan deputies at the Congress of Vienna, and was instrumental in establishing Geneva as a Swiss Canton. With an errata leaf following the 'Advertisement of the Translator&apos. One page of publisher's adverts to rear of text. Bound in a modern cloth binding with a leather title label on spine. Externally, very smart. A bit of discolouration with a few marks to the boards, with minimal edge wear to the extremities.
