Located between New Zealand and Antarctica, Macquarie Island is politically a part of Tasmania. It is inhabited by penguins, seals, whales and all manner of sea birds.Written by John Cumpston, a geographer, historian and publisher.The dust wrapper is illustrated by Paul Mikhailov, and depicts Garden Cove. Mikhailov was an artist travelling upon the Russian ship Vostok in 1820.With seventy illustrations bound to the rear of the work. Collated, complete.Loosely inserted are three works relating to the natural history of Macquarie Island dating from the 1970s.Complete with a slip stating that this work is 'With the compliments of the Secretary, Department of External Affairs&apos.A first edition, complete with the excellent unclipped dust wrapper. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally generally smart, with some slight wear to the spine and a little bumping to extremities. Dust wrapper is chipped to the head of the spine, with a small closed tear to the front board, but is otherwise in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
