A charming set exploring the civil and ecclesiastical history of Bristol, from its founding by King Brennus through to the nineteenth century. Including biographical sketches of eminent people and natives of Bristol, such as the life of Brennus, of Bibert, Sebastian Cabot and Ann Yearsley among numerous others. The first volume was written by John Corry, while the second was supplied by John Evans.Collated, complete with a frontispiece to each volume, two full page plates to volume I, and eight to volume two, of some beautiful engravings depicting the landmarks of Bristol. In a full cloth signed Fazakerley binding. Complete with half titles. From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. Her passion for literature is displayed by her impressive library.She was an English socialite known for her beauty and for charming various wealthy men, she was included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things&apos. In a full cloth binding signed Fazakerley with new endpapers. Externally smart with minor shelf wear and minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, the spine has slightly faded to both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting to the occasional leaf, although the pages appear generally bright and clean throughout. The leaves were roughly cut as common.
