Originally published in French as 'La Vie et les Amours de Charles-Louis&apos.ESTC citation number R10038.A fascinating biographical work on the love exploits and military adventures of Charles-Louis 1st, Elector Palatine.Charles Louis was the song of Frederick V, the Winter King of Bohemia, and Elizabeth Stuart, the sister of Charles I. During the first half of his life Charles Louis lived in exile due of the Thirty Years' War and the English Civil War, claiming the title of Elector Palatine in 1649.Though there were many memorable events of his political career, he is notable for his unilateral divorce from his life, Charlotte of Hesse-Kassel, and his bigamous marriage to Marie Luise von Degenfeld. Charles Louis' daughter, Elizabeth Charlotte, married Philippe I the Duke of Orleans, the younger brother of Louis XIV. She became the 'Grandmother of Europe', being the grandmother of Francis I, and the great-grandmother of Marie Antoinette. In a half calf binding with paper to the boards. Externally, boards and spine are rubbed with some discolouration and marks. Minor bumping to the spine and extremities. Small cracks to the joints. A couple of small chips to the spine label. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to the half-title. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
