A supporter of the Jacobite rebellion of 1715, he was forced to flee to France and became foreign minister for James Francis Edward Stuart. His works were influential on the likes of Voltaire, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.Edited and published by David Mallet (c1705-1765), a Scottish writer and dramatist.Printed the year subsequent to the subject's death. In a contemporary full calf binding. Externally generally smart; spine and extremities are somewhat rubbed, with a sticker to the head of the spine. Contemporary inscription to the front endpaper, as well as annotations throughout the text. Internally, generally firmly bound; front hinge is starting, but binding is otherwise tight.
