Londno, R Ackermann, 1816. First edition. Fine Binding. A finely bound copy of the Westminster section of Rudolph Ackermann's comprehensive history of several renowned English schools. Bound by F.R.S Lloyd, with their binder's stamp to the front pastedown. This section contains the 'Westminster' portion of 'The History of the Colleges of Winchester, Eton and Westminster; with the Charter-House, the Schools of St. Paul's, Merchant Taylors, Harrow and Rugby, and the Free-School of Christ's Hospital&apos.  It is therefore lacking the main title page. Illustrated, with four aquatint plates by several masters of the art: J.C Stadler, J Agar and J Bluck. The illustrations are after designs by Pugin and T Unwins. This was the fifth work produced by Ackermann on English topography and history. It was a fine pictorial record of the nine most historically famous schools in England. A lovely, bright copy of this work. In a full crushed morocco binding. Externally, very smart. Small dent to the bottom of the front board and small lsos to the leather at the rear board edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Offsetting from the plates to the text leaves, otherwise pages are clean. Near Fine . Ill.: Various. Near Fine .
