Original printed wrappers. = Very uncommon first edition of this well-illustrated work, which includes the descriptions and illustrations of not just Hawaiian houses, but types of ancient buildings from all over Polynesia, Melanesia, and Micronesia, as wel as pottery, tools, etc, etc. This Memoirs of the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum of Polynesian ethnology and Natural History Volume II, no. 3. The author, the American ethnologist, and botanist William Tufts Brigham (1841-1926) was the first director of the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum. Uncut. With a small stamp on the front wrapper, library of R. Harry, and several pencilled marginalia. Spine cover gone, front wrapper detached, some minor damp-staining at the lower edge of the last few leaves. Otherwise a very good copy.
